Here are a few tips to help you receive the best output quality and to save you money on file preparation.
  • Provide high-resolution graphics (preferably at least 300 DPI for color, 300 DPI for grayscale, and 600 DPI for black and white images in bmp, .tif or .eps format). NOTE: .gifs and .jpgs are usually very low resolution, for screen viewing only.
  • Provide single color images as solid bitmap, not grayscale, and apply color to them in the application they are placed in. This will eliminate jagged images.
  • Provide color images in CMYK format if used in process color - not RGB or indexed color. Many clipart images are not CMYK, so if you don't know how to change them, include them separately with your file so we can adjust them.
  • Provide composite printout and printout of separations, if it applies, so you can check to see how file traps and if it separates correctly.
  • Provide clear instructions as to line screen, colors to output, and system and program used.

Extra E-Mailing Instructions:

  • Provide clear instructions as to what type of file it is (form, letterhead, etc.), who the file is for, who is printing it, how many colors it should be, when it is required, the line screen desired, the type of output desired, etc.
  • Identify format of file (Mac or PC) and the software used (PageMaker, FreeHand, Illustrator, CorelDraw, Microsoft Publisher, etc.)
  • Provide a printout or fax one to us so we will know what the file should look like.
  • Provide any unusual fonts used (screen and printer font) or convert type to paths.

If the file is large, create a self-extracting zip file (PC) or .SIT file (Mac).

If these instructions are followed, there should be no extra expense in outputting your files. If they are not, we will explain how you need to fix the files, or we can fix them for an additional fee. Ample information simply saves us time and helps us to open files that might not download well otherwise. It also helps in turnaround time and prevents errors due to lack of communication.
